Kimball - just so I understand, you have no "active" connections going
and you still receive the message? If so, that is indeed a bummer.
So far I've been doing testing only with an actual active connection.

I tested it with an active connection and got the pop up after ten
minutes of using other apps and the ssh connection was still running
fine. I also turned the phone off (not off off, I mean screen off)
while not "in" iSSH, and was able to turn the phone on and then go to
iSSH and found it happily still connected.

Finally I tested by leaving the phone off (again, screen off) for ten
minutes to see if it would "wake up" to announce it was ready for me
to return to iSSH. It succeeded in doing this as well.

In light of Kimball's feedback, I just closed my active connection and
will see if it "reminds me" to go back to iSSH in ten minutes or not.
