This is fixed in the latest Beta (v2.3.1.10).
Note that whilst typing the URL it will still try to load and is quite
slow. Best to copy/paste the full URL (ensures you enter it correctly
this way too).
Otherwise you can disable 'Load web images' in the View menu and
guiDesigner will just render a replacement image. The real image will
load in iViewer though, its just a placeholder to make designing
faster when working on pages with dynamic web images.
