Hmmm. Just a thought here. I have seen the missing spaces effect on OSX using Terminal. What happens is that the original text I copied was output using tabs. Since I have set tabs to autolist and autoexpand in my .tcshrc file, if I paste tabs into the command line, they are interpreted not as tabs/spaces, but as autolist/autoexpands and thus they end up eaten (no spaces).

Now if you are copying from Bento, it may be adding tabs in place of spaces, especially if you are copying across fields. May or may not be your problem, but you might look into it.
