Re: Opinions on best IR A/V equipment controller hardware, & iTach from Global Chache and an iPad.

1. I can recommend GlobalCache and BitwiseControls units for
affordable control. If you need more advanced control, then you can
look into the Crestron and AMX types.
But if you are just after standard IR control and the occasional
serial and relay control, you can't go past the boxes that are made
just to do this.

2. The iTach family accepts multiple connections (up to 8 I believe)
as Fiasco said. Although I think their rs232 iTach units are still
single connection only. Some iTach units also have a built in IR
learner (whereas the GC-100 units had to use an external IR learner
which took up a serial port when needed).

3. All GlobalCache units work with our software. Basically anything
that can be controlled via Ethernet will work with CommandFusion
(there are some that don't, such as HAI who require complex encryption
for all connections, other than their rebranded Bitwise box - the HTX
- which works perfectly with our software).

4. Wired is always better if you have the option. Only go wireless if
you REALLY have to.
