you presented them.
1) This is a limitation of the VNC server that comes with OS X
Leopard which only supports 24-bit color over VNC. Like other VNC
clients for the iPhone, Vine Server comes recommended as a replacement
for the standard VNC server. This has 8 bit support as well as other
optimizations that make VNC more usable over WANs.
2) Key modifiers should be working as they should. There are no
special keys for the Mac as the VNC makes no such special distinction
for "command" or "option" keys. As tradition would make it, "Left
Alt" in VNC is effectively "Command" and "Right Alt" (which is in fact
missing from iSSH) is "Option." As these are sticky keys on the key
widget, they can be used in conjunction with tapping or key
combinations. The iPhone keyboard for the most part makes
significantly complex key combinations hard or impossible to do. This
explains the key pie widget in the console which I am working to
integrate with VNC and the X server as well.
In short, in a coming version you'll be able to configure the key
modifiers in any fashion you see fit (as is the case with the shell
console today.)
Regarding your request for Wake-on-LAN, it's already available in iSSH
today, though only configurable under a separate shell console setup.
Setup an equivalent shell console setup as you would for VNC and then
under "Advanced" you'll see a spot where you can enter the MAC of the
system you wish to wake up. Once the configuration is saved, If the
computer is unresponsive, you'll see a little "power" icon inside the
virtual LED. This means if you tap the virtual LED, you'll be given
the option send a WoL packet.
This isn't well documented as it's usefulness in the wild seems to be
rather limited as VPNed wifi networks rarely broadcast packets
properly to wired desktops, as such YMMV.
