New to SSH ... help

I need to remotely gain access to the terminal on my system to launch
specific jobs. I am a complete noob when it comes to SSH and am trying
to determine why I can not get iSSH to work from my ipad. My SSH
server is set-up on an Ubuntu Lucid Lynx system. Default port is 22.

I honestly don't know where to begin.

This is what I enter into the ISSH configuration dialogue:

Description: ipad
Host: IP address of Ubuntu system running SSH
Port: 22
Login: username@username-desktop

The ipad is on a local wireless connection. The Ubuntu system is on my
works network and I really have no idea what I am doing.

Can you recommend some way for me to diagnose my set-up?

Thanks in advance.
