rendering in Apple's API) there's the switch for the software
rendering. If you experience crashes with the fast rendering (which
you shouldn't) you can always revert to the software rendering to see
if that increases stability. My test case, however, was cating /dev/
urandom until it crashed. Once I put the fix in place (which
amounting to masking the ASSERT in the Apple font code) must have cat
a couple hours worth of /dev/urandom without incident.
