Terminal background color problems after adding meta key support

First, thanks for the new meta key support for the keyboard.

Unfortunately, now background colors are mixed up. When using a ssh
terminal shell on Mac OSX, the background appears grey, although set
to white in the ssh configuration. Only part of the line, where the
cursor is on, the background appears in white, as configured. In vim
the situation is worse. Each line beginning is grey then after a few
characters (different on each line), background is different shades of
lighter grey to white.

Else I love the new keyboard arrangement with the switchable meta-key
set.
