Have you checked your X server window? After typing the command, click the x in the upper right to bring you out of the terminal screen (this does not close the connection), then click the X server icon in the upper right to get to the X server screen. If your X11 forwarding is working ok, then you should see the emacs window after a few seconds. Hope this helps.
