I've not used the iPad version yet, but on the iPhone version I just use
screen how I would on a normal keyboard:

Tap Ctrl (which toggles it on, the equivalent of holding it down)
Tap a (which causes Ctrl to toggle off as it should)
Tap c

but maybe something is different when using iPad. I'm in a country that
Steve hasn't invented iPad in yet ;)
