I can not view desktop

Hi I just bought the iPad app to connect to my school Computer Science
server. I can ssh using shell into the server but I am unable to set
up x11 I have gone through the website a fews times, but I am not sure
how to set it up correctly.
I was wondering if anyone could help take the sets to making it work(i
just get a grainy desktop, my school is using GNOME).
