I've been working as a custom installer for 6-7 years now, and Ive
been working with a lot of different systems.
To share with you some of my experience, and opinion in a few short
words...I'd say that if you want to controll your "whole house" type
of installation; I'd recomend
Crestron, AMX, Elan Homesystems, ...or one of the Global Caches GC-100-
products,...but ...it all depends on how large your installation is
and what exactly you want to control... Almost any system will do.
(but I would try to avoid X10. Very unstable).
2: Dont know, but Im very happy with the Global Cache - CG-100-18 Im
testing out @ work now.. I havent tried the iTach yet, but Im looking
forward to test this out too.
3: Yeah, I guess there is no difference with this system compared to
any other...?
4: Wired products are ALWAYS more stable. (ALWAYS!) Because then you
know that you've got a connection between point A to point B.
If tou still have to use WiFi...A big tip here is: If you can avoid
it, try not to use any accesspoints, or "more than one wifi router...
This will slow down the wifi signals, because the signal will spend
more time, to "swap" comunication between eachother, than actually
send the signals to where its supposed to. Ive experienced this a lot,
and I cant tell you how much time Ive spent trying to fix "wifi"
mysterious problems.... (So again: Use cables if you can! :)
...but to conclude: ..no matter what you end up using as a
controller... There is NO BETTER OPTION than the CommandFusions
software as the choice of GUI!
And the key here is also: The GUI is what you will see, touch, and
use. The components, and your controller device, is normally hidden
away in a rack, in the basement or whaterver.... and they all do
basically the same thing. Some are better than others. The iPad will
be a revolution within the custom install industry. Guaranteed...! (at
least thats what I think! )
Hope you got some useful info here, since you asked for my opinion:)
Best Regards
Even
