Here is what I do with that.

I created a button 320 pixels wide by 1 pixel tall and place it at the
top of my command fusion remote screen. I created two images the
same size. One is red and one is green. I assigned the red image
to the buttons "inactive" state and the green one to the buttons
"active" state.

I then assign the join number of the button to the "connection join"
property of the project properties page in command fusion.

When connected there is a thin green line along the top of the screen
and when not connected it's red.
