We have not tested VMC Controller, but I believe it will be possible
to control and get feedback for most of what you need.
Here is a list of the commands you can send to VMCController:

Any cover art information you want to display must be served via a web
server. Then you send the image URL to the image's serial join.
Volume level is very possible. It's actually part of the EventGhost
demo project that we have up in our Google Code Repo along with the
EventGhost plugin:
