Yes it has been done by sending serial commands from a GC-100.

The XP-8 currently cannot be setup as a TCP or UDP server, which is
required for iViewer to send messages directly.
I heard on the grape vine that a future XP-8 firmware update would
enable the TCP Server feature, but have not heard anything official.

Try contacting RTI Australia, they seem to be leading the way in this
side of things.
